چکیده

Various modern systems for the transport and manipulation of large acceptance beams of rare and short-lived particles require the treatment of nonlinear optics of acceleration, absorption, and focusing in a combined approach. We describe a differential algebraic method for the treatment of such nonlinear dynamics via high-order transfer maps. We include the processes of scattering and straggling through absorbing material, which are inherently nondeterministic and hence not representable in the map formalism, in a split operator approach. Some examples of simulations of muon beam ionization cooling channels are provided. r 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Geant4 Simulation and Theoretical Studies of a Helical Cooling Channel

We present a conceptual design and detailed GEANT4 simulation of a helical ionization cooling channel proposed by Ya. Derbenev, which is able to cool in 3 dimensions (3D). The lattice of the channel consists of a long solenoid (B=5 T, L=72 m, R=70 cm) and a transverse dipole magnetic field which rotates with a period of 1.8 m and an amplitude of 0.3 T. The cooling is achieved using lithium hydr...

The Superconducting Solenoid Magnets for MICE

The Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) is a channel of superconducting solenoid magnets. The magnets in MICE are around the RF cavities, absorbers (liquid or solid) and the primary particle detectors [1], [2]. The MICE superconducting solenoid system consists of eighteen coils that are grouped in three types of magnet assemblies. The cooling channel consists of two complete cell of an SF...

Design for a Muon Front End with Magnetically Shielded RF Cavities

In the baseline Neutrino Factory muon front end, strong, closely spaced solenoid magnets are used to contain the high emittance muon beam. In addition, significant acceleration is required for bunching, phase rotation and cooling, requiring RF cavities operating near to their maximum achievable gradient. There are experimental indications that RF cavities may not be able to achieve these large ...

Designing an approprate solenoid and magnetic field for the HZDR laser-driven beamline

Nowadays, due to the high costs and large dimensions of the conventional proton accelerators, other optimal methods for producing the proton beam have been studied. Using of Laser-driven proton accelerators is one of the important and new methods. In laser-driven ion acceleration, a highly ultra-intense laser pulse interacts with solid density targets and will create a plasma media that will ac...
